On au pairs

”Au pair” means on equal footing. Thus an au pair is expected to do only light housework, just like other members of the host family.

Working hours are a maximum of 30 hours a week or five hours a day. Au pairs have one whole day off each week.
An au pair is entitled to free board and lodging in his or her own room and must be given a minimum of 2 500 kroners ($500) a month.
An au pair must be between 17 and 29 years old, and must not be married or have children.- Au pairs get a residence permit for a year with possibility of extending for another half year.
